History of the Mother Lode - SOC 900 (travel) or SOC 900V (no travel)
The first is an Independent Study Course from home. Through this course, SOC 900V, teachers learn about the history of the Mother Lode via audio CDs, videos, articles, websites, and books. Teachers can study and complete the course from their own home. This is a convenient way to learn about the history of California. To learn more about SOC 900V download the syllabus.
Another way to take this course, SOC 900, is as a Self-Guided Independent Study Course designed to help teachers become more knowledgeable about the history of California by traveling to the sites in the course. Student's travel to the sites in their private car. The Self-Guided Independent study format permits the busy teacher/student to "self-determine" when to complete on-site visitation requirements. It also permits the student an opportunity to have family/friends share in both the "home" and "on-site" learning experiences.
A weekend or any two days in the historic site area will allow the teacher/student time to complete on-site visitation requirements for this Self-Guided Independent Study Courses offered. Off-site requirements may be completed at home. To learn more about SOC 900 download the syllabus.
Teachers may enroll in either course at any time during the year. Teachers have up to one year to complete all course requirements.
