Picture
In this online course, ELA 925: Reading and Common Core State Standards Curriculum Mapping, teachers will be introduced to strategies for instructing students in Common Core State Standards Reading Lessons. Teachers will become familiar with designing lessons by differentiating instruction, using complex literature and informational text, and creating a curriculum map and lesson plans. Teachers will gain knowledge about the development of the CCSS, what the standards can accomplish and key shifts in transitioning to the CCSS. Teachers will need to purchase the text, Pathways to the Common Core: Accelerating Achievement separately from the course fees. All other materials will be provided through the online platform.

Teachers may enroll in this course at any time during the year. Teachers have up to one year to complete all course requirements.

This is what people are say about ELA 925 Common Core Reading:
  • 1. Well thought out and organized. 2. Excellent materials and sources. 3. Conducted by a teacher who knows what it is like to be in the classroom. 4. Structured in short steps to make it easy to digest. 5. Excellent examples of the work to be submitted. 6.Integrates practical classroom implementation. -Mary, B (Wadsworth, IL)
  • Now that I am at the end of the course, I realize that although I thought I had some background in the CCSS when I started, I really knew practically nothing. The course has provided me with a lot of useful information to start the new school year with the CCSS.  -Jeannette S. (Fresno, CA)
  • I found the book to be very insightful about the common core and the thinking behind it, I really enjoyed the articles and the chance blog I came across that explained the CCSS so clearly. Like the other course participant mentioned, I felt that I knew the CCSS until I took this course, now I REALLY know the CCSS and feel much more confident in my understandings and implementation.  -David H. (Fresno, CA)
